I was just informed by our sales team that we just had a large group (religious retreat) contact us about booking DMR for the February dates of our tournament. It’s a large group with lots of food and beverage and a room rate that more than doubles the tournament rate. I feel terrible but we can’t ignore this piece of business.I looked at dates in 2016 that could work for us, but our rate requirements are much higher that the tournament could afford. I feel we have no choice but to move our Tournament to a weekend in February 2017.
The good news is we will also have a lot more time to market the event and we can do a separate Checker and Chess tournaments on alternate weeks.
I am so sorry for this sudden change in plans.
Harry… lets plan on having our meeting tomorrow to discuss dates.
Again guys…my apologies.

JR,
I looked at our meeting space again this morning before meeting w/ Harry trying to see if there was any way we could make the tournament happen in 2016. Unfortunately there is no weekend where all three meeting rooms are available…however…if we were to run to separate tournaments and used one or two of the rooms …we can.Wondering if a Checkers Tournament could be scheduled for the first week of March (3-4-5) instead??
It’s the only weekend we’ve got open meeting space (outside of the first weekend in February).
Let me know either way. I’m holding the space right now.
To make this Tournament work financially we will need to expand the player roster (outside of your Federation) to around 100 players. Assuming your group can muster up between 30-40 players I’m wondering if we should run a separate Open Tournament (professionals) and Amateur Tournament simultaneously? This way we can attract family players who would be better suited to play against other amateurs…?
Thoughts?
If the dates don’t work I certainly understand. Just hoping we can do the tournament this year instead of waiting a whole other year.
If I don’t hear back from you before Christmas…I hope you have a wonderful Holiday.
